Seeking a business venture to provide professional and long-term career growth, excellent income potential, a family oriented environment, and eventual employment for others, prompted the start of our business services company in July, 1982. Using as collateral, our personal residence and savings, an accounting franchise, Comprehensive Business Services, was purchased.
Because of the strong accounting and financial background of Ella Weymon, she was the choice to develop and operate the business as a sole proprietor for the first two years. From the beginning, the focus of the company acquired a more technological approach in order to capitalize on the changing business environment and the strong computer background of Willis
Weymon.
The shift to personal computers and away for the turnkey operations provided by the franchiser prompted the decision to take legal action to discontinue the franchising agreement in 1984. The association with the franchiser was not completed until 1986, although our use of the name Comprehensive Business Service was discontinued at the end of 1984.
In November 1984, Weymon & Associates, Inc. was incorporated with a start date of December 1, 1984. The By-laws established a fiscal year ending September 30. The Corporation immediately started doing business as ACT-Now Division of Weymon & Associates, Inc., using the letters A (accounting), C (consulting) and T (tax services) as a quick reference to the services provided and a marketing strategy for advertising to be listed alphabetically using “A” rather than “W”. In 1986, the ACT-Now d/b/a was expanded (keeping the same pronunciation) to ACCT-Now. The second “C” was used to indicate the inclusion of Computer Sales (discontinued in 1990) and to indicate “Computerization,” of clients through training and set-up.
Continuing from the sole proprietor days, the target market for Weymon & Associates, Inc. (W&A), focused on monthly business services for small to medium sized business (0-100 employees, gross annual sales $10,000. to $1,000,000. +) in the lower half of the lower peninsular of Michigan. From 1982 through the mid 1995, the company concentrated on traditional public accounting and business services: computerized accounting, bookkeeping, payroll processing, accounts receivables and accounts payables processing, and tax planning and preparation for business clients.
Starting in 1996, W&A began to “think outside the box” of traditional accounting services and started to focus on “high tech” financial and business services for individuals and businesses. In 1997-98, the “individual” components were launched with the inclusion of Financial
Services (business, individual and estate plans): Insurance planning (annuities, health savings accounts, and life insurance), and expand tax planning and preparation to other “non-monthly, non-business” clients. Our expansion of “business” services were launched in 2000 with the inclusion of accounting software training and CAD (Computer Aided Design) services. The CAD services were discontinued in 2003, to allow the company to remain focused on the accounting and financial services related activities. The inclusion of scanning technology for timely and efficient records retention, storage and retrieval was launched in 2004.
From generalized accounting and business services, to specialized financial services and software training, W&A has positioned itself to become a leader in high tech business services for individuals and small businesses, while maintaining the high touch personalized approach for our clients. Our 20+ years of longevity give testimony to our philosophy of Excellence, Service and Quality through timely and personalized follow through.
